tektronix 1502

UpUp

This is a military surplus (probably Navy) Tektronix 1502 TDR Cable Tester. Comes with an X-Y module. Is used to find faults in cables. Unit comes with front cover, accessory 125V cable, no manual (but you can buy one on ebay for $7). It seems simple enough that you can probably figure it out without a manual (I mostly did).

I am not an expert in testing tektronix 1502, but I am an expert in applying common sense. So when I say that the unit is tested, it means that I performed specific common sense test procedures and I will describe their results here for you to judge.

This unit has been tested as follows: it powers up. It remains powered by battery after external 125V power is switched off. Obviously, with any used equipment, battery life and condition is not guaranteed, but it was enough to power the unit for a few minutes.

Since this unit is used to find faults in cables, I connected it to my 15 feet BNC cable, with open end on the other side, which simulated a cable fault. Alas, the line moved up exactly three divisions (the feet per division knob was set to 5 feet per division). I interpret this as the unit saying, correctly, that the "fault" is 15 feet away from the connection.

I did not test calibration or anything beyond what I just described.
