For sale is a military surplus Logis-Tech DEW-50 dehumidifier unit. The number 50 stands for 50 CFM.
The pictures show ACTUAL UNIT being auctioned. I finally took time to do it.
These are not consumer quality garbage "wet dehumidifier" units from box stores -- they cost our heroic armed forces THOUSANDS to purchase and conform to rigorous mil spec standards. The military has a habit of buying stuff, not using it and writing off so that they fully spend their yearly allowance. These units are all rated condition B4, which means good working condition.
See this demonstration with a live applet about how desiccant wheel dehumidifiers work. You can also download DEW-50 PDF Manual below.
These particular units were intended for drying tanks and armored fighting vehicles. That's why they were enclosed in a cage with a round circle on top, it would go over a tank hatch and hang inside tank, while venting moisture from desiccated wheels to outside. The cage protects them from impacts during insertion or transport. You can buy this unit with or without the cage. This auction is for one without the cage (cage would be removed by me). If you have a tank or AFV or any other vehicle where you want the cage, the extra charge is $20 to cover extra shipping cost.
Each unit is guaranteed to not be DOA and to perform its basic function (pump air, remove moisture and dry desiccant), but otherwise sold as is (that is, not tested whether they are functioning exactly to spec, due to lack of equipment and skills). I would not be selling them if I suspected them of being bad in any way.
Here's an email from Logis-Tech in response to my inquiry:
Subject: Request From Information on Our DEW-50 Dehumidifier Date: Tue, 28 Nov 2006 11:58:25 -0500 From: "*** *****" <******@LOGIS-TECH.com> Our DEW-50 will effectively dehumidify 320 square feet (or 2,560 cubic feet) of space. Of course, "effectively" depends on how "tight" the space is and how often it's opened. The price of our unit is $2,200.00 (less shipping and handling). We ship UPS Ground which would take approximately 3 days to Zip Code 60532 and cost an additional $20.00.
