Granite City ==> sextant 2

UpUp

This is a working military surplus Davis Mark II sextant by Davis. It was made in 1943. This one is not a replica. It was made to be used, not collected (as opposed to cheap beautiful brass sextants sold "NOT FOR NAVIGATION"). This one was made for navigation.

It is marked "US NAVY BU NAV MARK II / 16388-1943 David White Co Milwaukee Wis.". It has a very clear view through the scope.

Before you use it to navigate your boat, have it checked with a qualified expert to determine angular corrections. An older result of such inspection with corrections is included with this sextant.

If you plan long voyages, relying on an electrical piece of equipment like a GPS in a saltwater environment is dangerous and you need a reliable, time tested backup. This sextant can be used as a backup, it is less accurate than a GPS, but far more reliable.

It was a part of a liquidation lot with two more Weems and Plath sextants and other navigational equipment. I sold one Plath and kept another. I would very much like to have this Mark II sextant be used by a serious voyager, not someone who just wants to display it on the wall or something. But I will gladly ship it to any highest bidder. :)

This sextant comes with no shades. The box shows a lot of use, but the sextant seems in good shape. The Navy has very high standards of handling sextants. There is some kind of a sticker label on the bottom of the case (HI VAC) which you can peel off.
