For sale is a "Foseco mobile degassing Unit". From what I could find in google, this is a machine that is used to stir molten aluminum in a ladle, so that excess hydrogen can be purged out of aluminum. It also supplies argon through the mixing lance. I know nothing about degassing and therefore all of the above may be incorrect. You are responsible for its application. The machine belonged to Rock Island military Arsenal and was used until they decided to remodel the building and sold everything.
It is supposedly in good shape and I see nothing obviously broken. Ladles of molten aluminum do not pass my house often, so I have no way of testing it. I could not find any fault with it.
I bid on it without knowing anything simply because I liked the winch. The military did not know what it was either. They thought that it was a "shop made grinder with winch". I bid online. Finally, after pickup I realized that it said "degassing unit" and thus likely that's what it was. It is about 8-10 feet tall and weighs, perhaps, 800-1000 lbs. I could barely unload it. For local pickups, we can try to load together, but it may be problematic. I would say that if you can move ladles of molten aluminum, you can get a flatbed truck with a forklift and a couple of experienced guys, and pick it up at my place. In any case, there is no charge for pickup. I will help all I can. Casn only on local pickup.
I am starting bidding for what the Thern winch is worth to me. If no one wants it, I will take the winch off and scrap the rest.
